Coast to Coast Light RailThe expansion of Adelaide's light rail network ‘Coast to Coast', from Glenelg through the city to Semaphore is part of the South Australian Government's $2 billion public transport blueprint.

The extension of the tramline to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre will see the light rail network extended 2.8km, passing well known destinations such as Bonython Park and eventually the new Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Thiess has partnered with Downer EDI, Parsons Brinkerhoff, Connell Wagner and HASSELL to deliver the project, which is expected to be operational by early 2010.

The partnership has been described by Transport Minister Patrick Conlon as having "...the understanding, skill and experience to deliver a value-for-money project whilst giving proper consideration to the needs of community groups and road users."

Project Highlights
  • Tram corridor - trams will run in their own corridor down the centre of the road and travel through signalised intersections on the green cycle with other traffic
  • Platforms - four new tram platforms will be constructed as part of the project and will either link into existing or new signalised intersections. Each of these platforms will be easily accessible by all users and will be slightly elevated from the road with access via a ramp
  • Community consultation - the project has been developed in consultation with the community, adjacent businesses and key stakeholders such as the Adelaide City Council, City of Charles Sturt, City of West Torrens, the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and SA Health to ensure specific and wider community issues are taken into account in the design and operation of the new service
